JANUARY / 2026 Understanding and Fighting Basement Fires
​​🚨The training for JANUARY is Understanding and Fighting Basement Fires. Based on the latest research from the Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI), this course updates our tactics with hard facts.
What You Will Learn

Avoid "Death's Door": Why standing at the top of the stairs is deadly.

Soften the Target: How to cool the fire from outside first (without hurting victims).

The 360 Size-Up: Find the safest way in (walk-out doors vs. windows).

No Door? No Problem: How to use nozzles through the floor.

Flow and Move: The safe way to go down stairs if you have to.

In addition, there is a 15-question quiz will check how well you know and understand fighting basement fires in today's world. In order to receive credit you must get 10/15 questions correct. There is no time limit. Once finished, complete the training report.

This training is going to be completed at the monthly meeting however, if you are not at the meeting or planning on attending the meeting it is also on Google Classroom. ​​​The expectation is everyone participates in the training and takes the training seriously. Training is an extremely critical part of what we do and it is everyone's responsibility to understand that and attend/participate.

JANUARY / Annual Mandatory Training Topics (Harassment, Right to Know, Bloodborne/Airborne Pathogens, HIPAA Review) - ONLINE TRAINING
The training for JANUARY is the four required annual training topics - HIPAA, HazCom, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Harassment. These four topics are mandated by state and federal requirements. Since there have been no significant changes in 2025, this year's presentation is a brief review of the four topics. In addition, there is a 10-question quiz and a training report.

JANUARY / EMR: Medication Review
The purpose of this training is to ensure all Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) serving the Town of Lincoln are proficient in the administration and protocols of our authorized medications.
​
As EMRs, your adherence to these protocols is critical for patient safety and legal protection. While these guidelines provide our standard of care, it is important to remember that any deviation from these protocols or complex questions regarding patient management requires immediate contact with an on-line medical control physician at Marshfield Medical Center.

This session will focus on the specific indications, contraindications, dosages, and administration procedures for the following medications in our scope:

Respiratory Support: Albuterol (Nebulizer) and Oxygen.

Cardiac Emergencies: Aspirin.
-
Allergic Reactions: Epinephrine (Auto-injector and Draw-up).
-
Diabetic Emergencies: Oral Glucose Gel.
-
Narcotic Overdose: Naloxone (Narcan).
Our goal is to ensure that every responder is prepared to deliver these interventions confidently, accurately, and in full compliance with the MMC regional trauma center standards. This session will be followed up with scenario-based training focusing on administration of medication in a training environment.

FEBRUARY / Wildland Fire Refresher 2026
This will be a review of wildland as a refresher prepping for grass fire season. This will be presented by Gavin Hutchinson from the DNR, as an official refresher at Lincoln.

The goal of the session is to practice patient care including administration (simulated) of the scenario-specific medication. Each scenario will use three personnel - 2 EMRs and 1 patient.

This course, hosted by Marshfield Fire & Rescue Department In partnership with Fox Valley Technical College – ATW ARFF Training Center, provides an introduction to fire department response to aircraft accidents and is designed for fire service personnel seeking a foundational understanding of aviation-related incidents.

MARCH / HAZMAT Awareness Refresher
Brian Hopperdietzel will be coming in to present a HAZMAT Awareness Refresher class for the department. This session is designed to review and reinforce the ability of first responders to recognize hazardous materials incidents, identify potential risks, and take appropriate protective actions without attempting mitigation. The class revisits hazard recognition, placards and labels, isolation and notification procedures, and emphasizes personal safety, scene control, and proper use of reference resources such as the ERG. This session will start at 1900 hours before the meeting.

MARCH / Municipal Response to Aircraft Emergencies
This course is a basic overview of aircraft emergencies. The material is from the Fox Valley Technical College presentation held in February at Marshfield Fire as well as information from the FAA. It covers the very basics of response and actions to take during an incident. This is not meant to be an all-inclusive aircraft crash course. In order to receive credit for the training you need to 1) review the presentation, 2) complete the short quiz, and 3) complete the training report.

APRIL / UTV Overview and Operations
​One of the officers will present a review of the UTV as it could be used in wildland fire operations. Members will review using Rescue as a tow vehicle, the skids used on the UTV, as well as drive the UTV through a predetermined course in the parking lot (weather dependent).

JUNE - Session 3 / EMR Review of Medical Emergencies 3 (Online Class)
This session is designed to provide a refresher to all of the LFRD EMRs on select EMR skills. This includes an overview of each type, treatment, and medication/protocol where appropriate. To receive credit for the training, please review the presentation and associated materials (EMR Protocols, Medication and Vital Signs Cheat Sheet), complete the associated quiz, and complete the training report.

JULY / Review of Fire Ground Operations
This session will be a classroom review of fire ground operations including MAYDAY situations, suppression tactics, ventilation overview, and search and rescue. The goal of this session is to prepare the members' for fire ground evolutions in July or August and to enhance their knowledge of MAYDAY situations in a "friendly", low-stress environment. This is part 1 of a 2-part training session. Next month will be all practical including the use of all PPE (with SCBA). Each member is encouraged to review applicable department policy/guidelines and procedures related to fire ground operations prior to the class. It is expected all interior firefighters will participate in the practical portion.

AUGUST / Fire Ground Scenario Training

This session will be a practical session conducted at the Marshfield/MSTC Training Center (2615 S. Vine Av, Marshfield). The night will start with the Officer's meeting at 6pm in the garage at the Training Center followed by the normal monthly meeting. Following the meeting there will be a practical session involving several fire ground scenarios which may include suppression, search and rescue, MAYDAY situations, size-up reports, patient care for EMRs, etc.
It is also designed to give different members the opportunity to act as various officer positions (IC, Safety, Operations, etc.). Each member is encouraged to review related policies and procedures prior to the training session such as Incident Command, Search and Rescue, MAYDAY, etc. It is expected all interior firefighters will participate in the practical portion.

We will run several different scenarios and incorporate as much as we can to get everyone involved. Rehab will be set-up as well.
​
Cameron Fire and Rock Fire will be invited to participate if they are interested.

This session is designed to provide a focused training session that reinforces safe operating practices for firefighters on the emergency scene. The course reviews hazard recognition, situational awareness, accountability, PPE and SCBA use, communication, and risk-versus-benefit decision-making to reduce injuries and ensure everyone goes home safely.

This month's training session will focus on use of the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) for transportation incidents involving hazardous materials. Members will participate in scenario-based training, either boots-on-the-ground or tabletop scenarios.
