Training Schedule

This is a tentative schedule subject to change based on the needs of the department or instructor.

At some point in 2024 the new tender will be here and before going into service training will be completed by department members.  Date TBD.

JANUARY / Annual Mandatory Training Topics (Harassment, Right to Know, Bloodborne/Airborne Pathogens, HIPAA Review)

Mandatory annual training - to be in compliance with federal and state requirements this will be on the training schedule each year

FEBRUARY SPECIAL TRAINING - SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2024
Forcible Entry with Dave Briggs from Firefighter Training, Development, and Coaching, LLC

This is training for all firefighters who operate in an operations capacity on a fire scene.  Dave will start the day with a classroom review of forcible entry followed by hands-on practice forcing doors open using various techniques.  This course will be open to other area departments.  There will be two (2) sessions with a limit of 20 people per class session. Session #1 is 9 a.m. to noon and the second one is 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

MARCH / UTV Review (Equipment and Operations)

Captain Tysver will present a review of the UTV as it could be used in wildland fire operations.  Members will review using Rescue as a tow vehicle, the skids used on the UTV, as well as drive the UTV through a predetermined course in the parking lot (weather dependent).

MARCH SPECIAL TRAINING - THURSDAY, MARCH 7, 2024
Live Fire Training (house burn) - Richfield

Richfield FD is hosting a live-fire house burn on Thursday, March 7, 2024. Set up is at 5 pm and they will light it around 6 pm. The address is 8188 County Road EE. More information to follow.

 

Our monthly meeting will be postponed to allow members to attend this training. The new meeting date will be one week earlier, Thursday, February 29, 2024.  Officers at 6 pm and business meeting at 7 pm.

APRIL / New Tender Operations and
Emergency Vehicle Operations Course Refresher

This session will include a classroom presentation on emergency vehicle operations followed by a practical evolution on a date to be determined.  All department personnel who have the potential to drive any department apparatus must attend both sessions.

APRIL SPECIAL TRAINING - WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24, 2024
Thermal Imaging Class with Dave Briggs held at MSTC-Marshfield

THERMAL IMAGING CLASS - 4/24/2024 (register by 4/17/2024)

MSTC is hosting a thermal imaging class taught by Dave Briggs. This course will provide firefighters with current training in a topic that is relevant to the modern fire service. The topic will be tailored to meet the needs of the industry.

 

Class will be held at MSTC-Marshfield Campus, Wednesday, April 24, 2024, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. If interested, please register by April 17th on the MSTC website and let Chief Gingerich know as he will need to sign off on the Authorization form for MSTC. SEATS ARE LIMITED SO DON'T WAIT - SIGN UP TODAY!

MAY / Emergency Vehicle Operations Course Refresher - Driving Portion (Date TBD)

This session will be the practical evolution (driving) of the EVOC class.  It will be held on TBD.  All department personnel who have the potential to drive any department apparatus must attend both sessions.

MAY / Racetrack Safety and Operations Review

This session will be held at the racetrack and deal with orientation of the vehicles, facility tour, safety at the racetrack, and interaction with staff and drivers.

MAY SPECIAL TRAINING - Monday, May 6, 2024
Scene Size-up and Tactics class at Vesper Fire Department

Vesper Fire Department will be hosting a Size-up and Tactics class presented by Dave Briggs from Wausau Fire Department on Monday May 6th starting at 1800hrs  till 2100hrs, food will be provided. 

 

The main goal for this class is for Fire Officers to train/refresh on skills related to scene size-up and tactics.  This class will be limited to 20 participants, first to reply will reserve a spot.

 

*Cost $30 per person...... make check payable to Vesper Vol. Fire Department

 

**Fire Officers will get first chance

***Non Fire Officer firefighters are encouraged to sign-up, and will be put on a reserve list

**** If there is enough interest past 20, Dave will not hesitate to schedule another course at a later date hosted by Vesper

 

If officers are interested please let Chief Gingerich know ASAP so he can let Paul Dederich from Vesper FD know.

JUNE / Emergency Scene Scenarios

This session will be a practical session conducted at either the Marshfield/MSTC Training Center or the Hewitt training house.  This will be a practical session involving several fire ground scenarios which may include search and rescue, MAYDAY situations, size-up reports, patient care for EMRs, etc.  It is also designed to give different members the opportunity to act as IC.  Each member is encouraged to review related policies and procedures prior to the training session such as Incident Command, Search and Rescue, MAYDAY, etc. It is expected all interior firefighters will participate in the practical portion.

SEPTEMBER / MSA SCBA Familiarization and Usage

Members will participate in a familiarization session using the new MSA G1 SCBAs.  The goal of the session is to become familiar with the features and operation of the SCBAs followed by practical skills application using them.

OCTOBER / Project LifeSaver

This month's training will instruct department members on what Project Life Saver (PLS) is, how the equipment is used and maintained, followed by a practical skills application of locating a "missing" individual.​

NOVEMBER / CO Response Review and Winter/Cold Weather Firefighting Operations 

With the winter season approaching this session will be a review of response to CO calls as well as operating in cold/winter weather on emergency scenes; review applicable SOGs.
